The new Mayor of Kirklees came to visit our school today and then stayed for a tour of the school taking questions from the pupils

Here were some of the key questions and points asked around school
Do you live in a castle?
No, they live in a terraced house that has 3 bedrooms.  They are normal people and that goes  to show that anyone can do that job if they have a dream.  The mayor went on to say that she came from a very poor background where her family and a neighbours family actually shared an outdoor toilet.  You do not need to be rich in order to become mayor.

What does the chain around your neck mean?
The chain represents and shows people that she is mayor when she walks into a room.  The coat of arms is Kirklees coat of arms.  The chain was made in 1974.
How old do you have to be to be mayor?
You need to be a Councillor first for a number of years and then you can be voted in to be mayor.
Do you get to be mayor again after your year has finished?
No, you only get to have 1 go at being mayor.
How long have you been the civic attendant (Steve)?
11 years, he was a police officer first and then became an advanced driver, an instructor and then became the civic attendant.  He has never had to use the mace and will use his words to help people who want to do the wrong thing make a better choice.
What is the best and worst part of your job?
The best part for her is meeting all the people and spreading her message that anyone can have a dream and if you work hard you can be anything you want.  The worst part is that sometimes she is so busy that she can miss out on family events.
