ADULT LEARNING

What is Skillswise?

BBC Skillswise is a free-to-access website for adult numeracy and literacy tutors and students, with printable worksheets and factsheets and online games, videos and quizzes that can be used in class or by students at home.  We currently cover Entry 3 and Level 1 of the Skills for Life numeracy and literacy core curricula and plan to add more content in the future.

When did Skillswise start?

We launched the pilot Skillswise site bbc.co.uk/skillswise in Autumn 2001 and launched ‘for real’ in March 2002, covering most of the Level 1 numeracy and literacy core curricula. In 2007 in response to demand from tutors, we published some additional Entry 3 resources. Our latest launch in 2011 completes our plan to cover the Entry 3 and Level 1 numeracy and literacy curricula, with a new simplified structure to make it easier to navigate between E3 and L1, re-designed worksheets, factsheets and quizzes, as well as new video content and a new job skills section.

Who makes Skillswise?

Skillswise is produced by a team based in the BBC Learning department in Salford. We work with adult skills tutors and students and specialist consultants to develop and commission new Skillswise resources such as web pages, articles, printable worksheets, games, activities, quizzes and videos. These resources are either developed in-house or commissioned via the BBC’s tendering process from experienced independent companies who meet the BBC’s high production values.
