This term, we have been learning about slavery and Britain’s role in the transatlantic slave trade. We found out about the cruel nature of slavery and the slave trade and considered our responses to it. We took inspiration from the anti-slavery protesters from the time, such as Josiah Wedgwood, and also a contemporary artist, Lubaina Himid, who won the Turner Prize for her work that reflected Britain’s ongoing relationship with its historical links to the slave trade. We produced our own anti-slave trade plates which are shown in the image below.
